a very big surprise as we had quite given it up as hopeless. The C.O. was awfully pleased about it and had dashed across to the mess to be the first to tell me about it. So now I am Captain Hughes!! Of course I am very pleased about it and I know you will be too. It has'nt been remarkably quick, as just about this day last year I was going to France but at any rate it has come through in the end. We had some "bubbly" in the mess that night to celebrate the event & had a very cheery evening as every one was very nice about it & seemed to be really pleased that our promotion had come through in the end.
I am going to have a struggle to get away for Eileen Toohey's wedding on Thursday as my assistant instructor
