One of the things I did during my leave was to have my photograph taken again. It is over a year since the last ones and I am sure you will like to have some new ones of the "Capting". This time I went to a man named Beresford who was recommended by the Vidals. He is a comic old cuss & his method was to entice me into an argument about any old thing & suddenly say "Now stay like that" & promptly take a photo! The method is original and the results may be quite startling but should at least be natural – I havn't seen the proofs yet. He gives all his profits to the Red Cross during the war.
I am finishing this letter on Thursday (15th) sitting up in bed, which is the warmest spot these days. Today was nice and fine and we were able to get on with the good work of shaking things up in this squadron. The result is that though things are far from satisfactory yet, we have broken the squadron record for a days flying!
Since my last letter I have your letters as follows: Mothers No 9 and duplicate No 8. Fathers of 26th September. I have also got the photos from Eileen of the darling baby and a draft for £2 for a present from them. I will write to Eileen as soon as I have a moment to spare and thank her for them. With the draft I bought a silver pencil to replace the one darling Roger gave me & which I lost last week, and also a beautifully bound copy of the "Imitation of Christ" and a similarly bound "Garden of the Soul".
