had said for hours and he confessed that he had never realised that point of view at all.

All this experience is very interesting and does a great deal to give you an insight that into human nature that, had it not been for the war, would have taken years & years to gain.

I have made many good friends in the flying corps and met lots of interesting people. It has all widened my outlook tremendously and taught me to make allowances for other peoples point of view. In that way it has been very very interesting and most instructive and often very enjoyable, but there is always that same old longing to see something of nicer and quieter and more home like things. That is why I am so much enjoying myself here just now because here I am finding just a breath of the old days at home that seem so far away. It is so nice to be able to get away from the aerodrome and the mess and all the crowd just once in a while and really enjoy myself.

I told you in my last letter that I was going to dinner on Friday with the Vidals. Segrave & I & a few others went over there to dinner and really & honestly it was one of the cheeriest evenings I've had for ages. There were just about a dozen there and after dinner we had a wild old rag. We had a gramaphone dance – just like the old days at home – and we played all sorts of games including a wonderful version of hide & seek
