of the village asked us to join in. So on the great day we trooped out armed to the teeth with rifles & revolvers. At the wood we met a crowd of wild frenchmen armed with every sort of weird gun from muzzle-loaders to pin-fire shot guns. At that stage I began to get cautious for I began to realise the risk of standing in a wood with a lot of mad frenchmen armed with all the heavy artillery of bye gone ages! So while the frenchmen argued & nearly came to blows with the head keeper of the wood – for it was a private preserve – I found a few others who were also getting the wind up & we decided to watch the show from a safe distance.
So when the frenchmen & a lot of our chaps went into the wood we remained outside in a safe place! I will draw another diagram to show you the arrangement of the shoot. The beaters drove the boar
