life here. Though old man Vidal is a funny old stick in the mud and a terrible old bore at times, I have had lots of very cheery evenings there when we danced sometimes till 2 AM!! Margaret Vidal has just gone off to London to do typewriting at the Air Board Office and all the other girls in the neighbourhood have gone away to do various kinds of war work, so I am afraid there will be no more dances. She is an awfully nice girl and we are great pals. She had a rotten time with a chap who was at the aerodrome till a few days ago & who behaved like an utter cad to her. I have promised to look her up in London when I get leave to see Aunty & the girls & Gilbert & Maurice and will bring her to our little parties there, as I'm afraid she will have a pretty dull time in town. Now don't you start scenting a romance here because there ain't none! We are just excellent pals and it is very nice to make some really good girl friends over here. Up to this I have been a very lonely bloke and have very much missed all the "Queens" as dear old Roger used to call them. So you need'nt be anxious about me as, although only a kid still, I think the experiences of the last two years have made me fairly level headed. Besides you know that there is nothing I would not do to make my darling old Mother & Father happy and save them worry and anxiety, so you can realise that there is'nt much likelihood that I would go and fall in love
