the full face ones don't do you justice. We are of course awfully glad to get them, & the three pips on the shoulder strap look very well. The next one will have half an inch of white & purple ribbon on the coat, & I hope a crown on the shoulder.
I read your letter, with the account of your first Hun prize, to Auntie Susie the other day, & she was enchanted. So was Monica Flower to whom we read it on Sunday last. I shall have to get it typed for private circulation, as I don't suppose you would like me to publish it. I read Gilbert's letter to his mother with his account of Christmas in Jerusalem, & it was really one of the most picturesque letters I have ever read. There is no doubt about the way Gilbert is "making good".
I have written to Auntie Mary by this mail, & have enclosed £10 to cover any expenses she may be put to in connection with you in any way. I know you have left money for cables with her, & I am sure you have been no direct expense to her, but still there may be other ways in which at any rate she won't feel pinched in doing anything possible for your comfort or convenience.
Eileen & Peter are still with us, although Eileen is vigorously searching for a suitable flat, & I am afraid we rather openly rejoice as the days pass without her finding a suitable one. I told Peter the story of your fight, & then asked him what Uncle Geoffrey did to the Huns, & he said "Bang, bang, bang, bang!", but he seemed very concerned & almost wept when I told him, before that, how Uncle Geoffrey flew far far away up in the clouds.
Goodbye & God bless & guard you, my dearest boy.
Your loving father
Thomas Hughes.
