2.

took many long hours to report at the Air Board! I have had several cheery parties with Margaret to various theatres. Really I must try & give some connected account of what has happened since my last letter on May 6th, for I seem to have started this one at the end.

After several more "dud" days the weather cleared again and on the 9th we did two patrols. I believed I had my gun all right at last but bad luck still pursued us! We had a splendid scrap with about seven Albatros but quite at the beginning my gun gave trouble and lost us a sure hun. However the subsequent events gave me a new adventure like none I've had before. During the general melée one Hun tackled me from behind and for the first time I had a real good scrap man to man. We kept at it for several minutes fighting for position & then I got him completely out manouvered.
