The other cutting refers to a screamingly funny episode of a few weeks ago. There were great celebrations at St Patrick's Church recently to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the preservation of the Blessed Sacrament in the house of Mr. William Davis on the site of the present Church & Convent for two years, between the expulsion of Fr. Flynn from the colony & the arrival of Fr. Therry, (1818 to 1820). Incidentally I may mention that the Mr. William Davis mentioned was the father of Mr. William Davis the present General Manager of Tooheys' Brewery. Well, to get back to my story, these celebrations were hardly over, when a rumour began to spread that a strange light could be seen at night, shining up from the darkened church through one of the big ventilators on the top of the roof, and crowds began to gather in the little reserve opposite the front of the church, & stories of miraculous lights spread broadcast, & the crowds grew & grew until even Mother & I went off one night to see what was happening, & we found ourselves in an immense crowd of believers & unbelievers, – of Catholics, Protestants, Jews, & heathens, all struggling to get into the positions in which the wonderful light could be seen coming out of one of the ventilators on the roof while all the rest of the church was in inky darkness. Meanwhile the flower beds in the reserve were being trampled to bits,
