Eileen Forrest Hughes (there are so many Eileens nowadays) sent us a dear little snapshot of Peter in Charlie Maher's arms, taken at Collaroy. She is sure to have sent his godfather & uncle one too. Mother & I never suggest or hint that we would like to have him back here soon, because it is only fair that his other grandmother & grandfather should see something of him, but we are longing like anything to see him again, & we suppose that all the Collaroy people will be coming to town in a few weeks to prepare for the d'Apice – Dorothy Maher wedding on the 21st November.
Both Bill & Dorothy were here to afternoon tea on Sunday. He says that the Stricklands have moved into their own house the Villa Bologna in Malta, & that as far as he knows, they are going to stay there till further orders. Evidently Sir Gerald accepts his dismissal (although of course it is not technically a dismissal) and has abandoned all hope of attempting to get a hearing in London, as it will be far too late to do anything if he does not go to London soon. For my own part I think he accepts his forced leave of absence as the end of his public career. He told me that he was not going to demean
