the Empress Rooms & took Margaret & we had a great old fox-trot. On Friday I got a letter from the C.O. saying that I have been awarded the M.C., so straight way cabled you the news, which I know will please you. I am awfully glad for your dear sake's, my own darlings, for I know how proud you always have been of darling old Roger & me, and it is great to be able to have something to add to the fine collection in the old cabinet in the drawing-room – this time a real family war medal. Really I am very lucky to get it, for my flight has had all the luck from the start & the others would probably have done better than we did, if they had had the same opportunities. So far they hav'nt given old Claye anything, which is a bit rough as he has been with me all the time & ran whatever risks I ran. I do hope he gets something too.

I have got two rather good trophies from our big fight. You remember I promised Daddy a tobacco jar made out of a propellor boss? Well in the big scrap a Hun bullet hit my propellor & spoilt it so I cut the blades off & gave them to Claye, and brought the boss over with me. The Army & Navy stores are making it into a tobacco jar for me and some day I will
