by Lindsay, who is Staff Officer for Training at the Group Hqrs, that they are making a new job as Group Examining Officer and he asked me if I would take it. He said he would sooner have me than anyone else. Of course I said I would be delighted. At present it is a dead secret & nobody here knows it yet - not even the C.O. Today I was told that I will be getting the job any day now. It should be a splendid job for me. It will be exactly like my present job only more exalted, and I will be promoted to Major. The best part is that I will be under Colonel Freeman who was my Wing Commander in France. Beaver will step into my place here and I am sure he will do it well. I am awfully bucked at the prospect but of course I never take everything as certain till it comes. I know my darling old Mother & Father will be delighted if it comes off. It will mean that I don't go to France again except in the emminently safe position of Squadron Commander. I will be very lucky to get promoted for the
