use their arguing about it – they either let me stay or they did'nt get their pilot. So the Colonel gave way and said I could stay on till Monday unless further orders came in the meantime. So we had at least put off the evil hour and given us a further lease chance to fight as the C.O. was coming back on Sunday as he because his course had been reduced to a week.

The C.O. actually came back on Saturday afternoon and was there when the Colonel arrived – little dreaming that he was back. They had a great old battle over my fate but the Colonel would not give way and used the plea that my going to Rendcomb would be "for the good of the corps."

So on Monday morning I had to leave the old squadron where I have been so happy for the last six months. Major Henderson was awfully nice to me and was really sorry that I had to go. He has been a splendid C.O. to me and is one of the nicest men I have ever met. He and Mrs Henderson were always very good to me and I often went to their house. It was very nice to have such a nice place to go, for they are a most charming pair.
