My own darling Mother & Father,
Since my last letter I have got your dear letters of December & lots of cuttings about the Mannix affair. The letters are No 13 duplicate, No 15 & No 14 & December 18th of Mother's and Father's of 2nd & 17th December. I like the bookplate for darling Roger's prize very much indeed, & think it is just in perfect taste. I love that glorious quotation "Qui, procul hinc ante diem periit etc" [Qui procul hinc ante diem perlit. Sed miles sed pro patria. Who dies before his time, but a soldier, but for his country.] – It it always thrills me.
I was most interested in the Mannix cuttings. Certainly my little father has stirred up the shirkers and the pitiful squealings of the traitors are the best proof of it. I wont say any more about what I think of the swine – it just makes me mad to think of them doing everything in their power to betray the men to whom
