making such a poor show. Thank God we Catholics are not bound to obey the Pope in our political or international ideals. Some of the things he said must have given great offence to the great majority of the congregation. All I can say is that the only effect of Father Bamptons "Apologia" is to make me entertain very grave doubts about the origin of the Papal Note which up till then I had regarded as ill-timed but harmless on account of its vagueness.
On Sunday afternoon we took a taxi and drove about 20 miles to Gerrards Cross. Cicely had suggested it as a pretty place to go for a run so we went. Imagine our surprise on when the taxi driver pulled up at a very dull & uninteresting group of houses & told us that this was Gerrards Cross! We could not even get tea there & had to go four miles back along the road to find a tea place!
We chaffed Cicely very much about Gerrards Cross as you may imagine. However we had a very nice run back through Ruislip, Northolt & Ealing. In spite of Cicely's choice of a completey "dud" spot as our destination we had a most enjoyable afternoon.
On Monday we all went to Victoria at 7.35 to see old Bryan off back to France. Thank Goodness he will be in a comparatively quiet spot for some time.
