it is better to have him as head of the Nationalists, & in office, than to see the country handed over to the devil & all his angels in the shape of a Labour Government opposed to the war.
There has been no end of trouble at No 4 General Military Hospital, Randwick, where George Mullins, as Officer in Command, & Stokes as Principal Medical Officer for N.S.W. have been waging furious war on each other for months & months & months. The net result was a Royal Commission of Enquiry which has been sitting for several months & has just finished its work. Five members supported George & the other five condemned him, but R.D. Meagher carried the report in George's favour by his casting vote as chairman. Then the other five sent in a minority report. Pearce has now decided to remove both Stokes & Mullins from their jobs, but new appointments have not yet been announced. The only question agitating the Mullins family is whether this is the end of all things military for George, or whether he will get another job in some other position in the Medical Service. Of course if he is definitely "passed out", he will have to get out of Khaki, & return to civil life, & I don't think he has any chance of picking up any practice again, & I don't think he is by any means well off privately. I have never understood the position of John Mullins, George Mullins, & Mrs. Tom Mullins (Florrie Barlow) in reference
