All the country round Fowey is simply beautiful and the villages are the quaintest old grey places invariably straggling up the side of an appallingly steep hill. Many of the old village churches are most beautiful though very simple. The Church at Lanteglos is the finest of all. It is very simple, built of white stone with the lovliest Gothic roof built of plain oak beams. In it are many beautifully carved oak seats and round the walls some gorgeous carved oak panels with coats of arms painted on them. Not being an armorial expert I could not pick them out but Daddy should be able to place one that had fifty six quarterings.

In the evenings we used to play cards of some sort & only on the last night I re-established my fallen fortunes by
