During the last few days I have had a splendid mail from you (May 29th & June 13). It has been grand.

I had a letter from Rowe the other day saying he had got the cigarettes all right.

The other day I flew down to Gosport to see old Mitchell – my old C.O. – who was so good to me. He is a Colonel now & was back on leave. He was awfully glad to see me & we had a great old yarn.

On arriving back here I found a letter waiting for me from Ward telling me that dear old Pearson – my old observer of whom you heard so much – has been killed. He was back in old 10 squadron as a pilot. He was badly wounded at night by a bomb exploding as he landed & the poor old chap died a
