My own darling Mother & Father,
When I last wrote on June 10th I had just arrived at Gosport for a course at the School of Special Flying. I had a most interesting and enjoyable time there as the instruction was marvellous. The things they did were not wonderfully spectacular but as flying in its best sense were extraordinary. Their whole aim is to teach instructors to be perfectly accurate and to be able to detect mistakes and explain minutely the why and the wherefore of every movement. It is simply amazing the number of people who have flown for years & imagine they are just the best of pilots & yet in reality cannot do not know what accurate flying is. A most important part of the course is learning how to explain exactly why you do everything & to show your pupil the result of every mistake as well as the correct method. Of course you talk to the pupil down a speaking tube all the time
