Letter No. 11.

59 T.S.
Lilbourne
Rugby

Sunday 23/12/17.

My own darling Mother & Father,

Please excuse the pencil but I am lying in bed writing this in new and rather uncomfortable quarters. As you will see from the address I have been on the move once more – the whole squadron this time. It is a long and rather complex story and it will do me good to "let off steam" by telling you all about it later in this letter.

I got your loving cable on the 13th. I know how your dear thoughts turn more than ever just now to that sad time a year ago, just as do mine. I was hard at work on the 11th and could not get away to Mass (we were far from any church) but I had Masses said in London for darling old Roger & all our other dear ones.

It is almost impossible to get to church nowadays except when I get a day or two off in London but I always read every night some of the "Imitation" before going to sleep, and so manage not to forget altogether my duties. In these times when Sundays are just the same as other days and there is the same old grind of work the lack of the ceremonies of religion can only be made up for by offering up to God the work one is doing.
