being killed. It is terribly sad & I feel it very keenly as he did so much for us all – the dear old chap. He was a wonderful man and one cannot help feeling that he would have rather given his life like this than any other way. Please God his wonderful example of self sacrifice & devotion to Ireland will do much to bring peace & happiness to his country. Everyone is most deeply moved by his heroic death. I wrote to Mrs Redmond as soon as I heard the news.

Aunty tells me that Herbert Maher has had a cross made out of the oak of Albert Cathedral & put it over darling old Roger's grave. It is awfully good of him & I am very glad as my cross could not be sent out. He has some photos of it which he is sending to you I believe.

I loved the story of your dream about the darling old chap – I only wish it could come true now, but it surely will some day. I can hardly realise that dear old Roger is gone for a time. You see I had not seen him for so long until that last time, and I miss him just as I used to when I was in France & he was at home, but I can hardly realise now that I will
