towards the guns but noone was on any account to fire until the boar had passed through the line of guns as to fire forward was dangerous to the beaters & to fire back to the side meant hitting the next man in the line

Of course the first boar was put up & ran between an R.F.C. sergeant and a Frenchman. The latter saw the boar coming & promptly put up his gun & shot the sergeant!! I sent the wounded man to hospital & promptly went home quite satisfied to be well away from the hunt – the farther the better! The man was not dangerously hurt. 

When next day a message came that the Colonel was coming to the squadron at 3 pm
