I had a hundred or so more rounds. I was in such a position that he could'nt fire at me and I could hardly have missed him. It was a big disappointment for I really thought I was going to bring down the squadron's first Hun. Anyway I'll take good care in future not to use up all my ammunition testing my gun. To day I had to get up at 5.45 am to lead my flight on an early patrol. We went up to 19000 feet & it was very cold and uninteresting for it was foggy & there were no other machines about. In time we will get oxygen for use at these great heights for the rarefied air knocks most people out. One of my pilots was quite ill today when he landed and one observer got a nasty frostbite on the cheek.
