all right, for not only have I got a friend at the group in Minchin, but the Group Commander is Colonel Freeman who was so decent to me out in France as my wing commander. The C.O. told me all his troubles & said that the Colonel (Freeman) had rung up to speak to him about me when he sent me to the squadron & that he had said all sorts of nice things about me. So I think I will not be entirely unrewarded if only I can make things go, and anyway I'm going to wade in to the nasty job & do my best. The Colonel came to the aerodrome one day & was very nice to me. 

Last Thursday being a holiday I went to London and bought a bicycle as the only solution of the problem of getting to the aerodrome & back – it is impossible to use a motor-bike these days of no petrol. On Thursday evening I went to dinner & a theatre with Margaret, Miss Butler & a Melbourne chap called Riddell. On Friday morning
