16.

today. Out in France I have been rather a heathen, as there was no chance to go to Mass where we were.

This afternoon we hired a boat and rowed up the river to a farm & had a most delishful tea – no rations this time!! It was a glorious afternoon and the country is simply beautiful – already the spring is coming & everything is beginning to get green. I will enjoy my leave here immensely – it is such a quiet and pretty spot. I will stay here till Monday (1st April) but must go then as I have to return to France on Tuesday morning.

I will enclose in this letter some photos that I got developed the other day. There are some of the sacred spot of Heilly which I took to give you some idea of the place where our darling rests. In each you can see the little wood on the hill which overlooks the cemetry and the dark oak cross that marks his dear grave can be seen in the right hand corner. I will enclose a set for you & for Eileen. The others are of the squadron & will be interesting for you to add to your collection.

I am feeling awfully well and bright after my little spell of France – I was getting rather stale at the continuous grind of instruction. The change of work has done me an awful lot of good and I feel absolutely as fit as a fiddle.
