amazing bad luck. Next day we did a patrol late in the evening and I was with two other machines & sighted a Hun two-seater over Albert. I went after him at about 14000 ft & chased him east for about 10 miles. I got in some good bursts at him and followed him down to 5000 feet. His observer kept firing very wildly indeed but at 5000 ft I got in some good shooting & he stopped firing & the machine fell vertically in to the mist where we lost him. He was certainly "out of control" – it was bad luck again that the mist prevented our seeing him crash. We got well & truly "archied" in getting back to our own lines!

Then followed two days "dud" weather, and another amusing adventure – the great boar hunt. In a big wood near the aerodrome were some wild boar & the local inhabitants decided to have a grand boar hunt & the mayor
