old squadron. Next morning I had a good long sleep and breakfast in bed – what a joy! I found Winkley – another old 10 squadron pal – and we had lunch at the Picadilly where I met Billy David & his sister. He has been wounded again and looks rather off colour. In the afternoon I did some shopping & met Luxton & his wife. They are awfully nice Melbourne people. I taught Luxton to fly & now he is home wounded.
I met Aunty, Bryan, & the girls at The Trocadero for tea. Helen Barlow, Mrs Phipps & Flynn – one of Bryan's battalion – were there. We had dinner in Soho at the "Petit Riche" & went to the Alhambra to see "Round the Map" – a fairly good revue.
On Saturday I had another long sleep & did some shopping before having lunch at Simpson's with the Luxtons who took me to a matinée of "Inside the Lines". Dinner at "Les Gobelins" with the family & to see "Airs & Graces" at the Palace finished another wild wooly day. Gertie Miller was very very good in "Airs & Graces" – I have never seen her before.
On Sunday I had another long sleep & we all went to 12 Mass at Farm Street. Father Bampton made a very long-winded apology for the Pope's Peace proposals, which was as weak as it was long. I cannot call it a sermon – it was really rather disgusting. In some parts it was absolutely childish and most indiscreet. I was honestly amazed at a clever man like Father Bampton
