I can see that Segrave looks to me to pull the show together and it is rather complimentary to be given the dirty work to do. I am quite hardened now to having to battle with "dud" flights and am sure that I will have the show running quite well before long. So once again I am rolling up my sleeves and starting the unpleasant old battle against slackness & inefficiency. The early unpleasantness of these struggles is easily well repaid by the satisfaction of getting things running well afterwards. As far as I can find out there is no immediate intention of sending me to France so that is out of my mind for the moment.

At present I am not very comfortable here as we live in huts & the only furniture in my room is a camp bed & a chair but I will get some furniture soon. This is a very nice place in the New Forest. We are about six miles from anywhere but I hope we will find some nice people here living around.

I can't tell you how much I miss the happy days at Rendcomb, and the little dances etc. It really has been a bright spot in these dreary days so far from my own little fat home. I had a letter from Mrs Vidal to-day – she has been awfully good to me and they have been very good friends to me. I have always felt rather lonely and wanted some friends away from the aerodrome so that I could sometimes get away from the blessed R.F.C. for a bit. I do wish Mother will write and thank Mrs Vidal for being such a brick to me – her address is "The Rectory, Barnsley, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. I will enclose with this letter some photos I took one week
