got down safely on the Hun side of the lines. Since then things really have happened & there is much to tell you in this letter. Next morning (the 13th) I led an offensive patrol of eleven machines and our main task was to keep the route clear for some bomb raids. To tell the whole story in detail would take a very long time, so I will give but a short account of the events that led up to the great battle. By some careful manoeuvering and great caution backed by a very big bluff I managed to attract every Hun in the sky to one point without letting them get into a position which allowed them to attack us. So at the time that our patrol was due to finish I was feeling very pleased as my plan had entirely succeeded and I had thirty Huns below me and ten others at our height some distance to the north east and a further ten above us but not near enough to attack us before we crossed the lines.
