to say that another cablegram had come. We got him to read it to us, & didn't get the wording exactly but we gathered that it had been sent from England on the 8th January, & that you said you were then expecting to be sent over, but that you wouldn't be at the very Front for some weeks & not to worry. I shall get it when I go to town tomorrow morning.
We knew of course that the chances were that you would soon be sent to the Front again, but all the same we would naturally have preferred you to be kept in England. However God's Will be done, & we won't worry you by saying anything further about it. You will be there when you get this, & we hope you will be half way through the three months' active service required, as you say, to qualify you for your next step, & we don't care how soon the time passes if only you get the step soon, & then as a Major you will not have much more time in the air. God guard you & keep you safe, you dear old thing.
Auntie Mary writes to say that Mrs. Vidal told her she had heard your fellow officers talking about you long before she met you, & that they all looked on you as one of the most remarkable flying men they had ever met, & they said you should never be sent out of England as you were too valuable there. Well, please God the Powers above you in the R.F.C. will soon discover this for themselves, & send you back again. Meantime your Mummy & Daddy will go on praying for you. This is
