My own darling Mother & Father,
Once more you will notice a change of address – I came here last Monday. To cut a long story short, my most excellent C.O. Segrave was sent away from Rendcomb to take this squadron and he applied for me to come here too and the powers that be granted his request – so here I am. I was awfully sorry to leave Rendcomb where I really had the best time I've ever had since I joined the R.F.C, but the new C.O. was not one that I would not have hit it off with at all so it was better to stick to Segrave.
At present I have command of the BE2E Flight – the old machine I flew in France – and another chap has the Bristol Fighters. It is rather sad to go back to these elementary machines but I am not grumbling, because Segrave has a hard job ahead of him to pull this squadron straight. The flight that is most in need of reform and the strong hand of the energetic organiser is the one that he has asked me to tackle and I am not going to let him down.
Under any other circumstnces I would be very fed up at having to go back to more elementary work, but
