efficient. The whole trouble is that the instructors mechanics, pupils & every one else is fed up and disheartened and no one takes a pride in their work at all. The C.O. was trying to buck things up by insisting on continuous work from dawn till dusk (5 AM – 10 PM). I told him that was all wrong for when people are already fed up and slack, it is no good trying to force more work on them. So on my suggestion the flying has been limited to twelve hours a day & if I could I would reduce it more.

So from Monday we work in two groups of instructors mechanics & pupils. One lot flies from 6-9 am & 2-6 pm & the other from 9-12 am & 5-8 pm. In this way I hope to get much more keeness & better work when people are on duty for six hours good work is infinitely better than 8½ hours slack work. My great point is that it will give the mechanics more time off duty & so encourage them to better work when on duty and also will give them more time to keep machines in perfect condition.
