19th February 1918
My dear Geoffrey
We have just got your long letter from Lilbourne, Rugby, dated 23rd to 27th December & numbered 11. We also got your cablegram to say you had not posted any letters which would have been in the "Audania" (which was sunk) & adding the most important news that you were well. The cablegram is dated London 16th February.
We have just finished reading your long & most interesting letter all about your adventures at Christmas time when Segrave's flight got scattered by the gale, & when he finally lent you his car, & the petrol ran out when you were four miles from anywhere. Then you go on to tell us of your appointment to a Flight in the 62nd Squadron, & of all the work ahead of you.
Well, Geoffrey dearest, you have now been nearly a month in France, & by the time you get this letter you will have been more than two months there so that we hope & pray you will then be through at least half your time there.
Don't you worry about us. We are anxious of course, but your little fat Mummy is as brave as anything, & she & I don't want to say or dream of anything that will prevent you doing your work as well as ever you can. Don't feel nervous on our accounts at all. Just do your level best, & leave the rest to God. You have two brothers in Heaven
