It is rather trying to be kept idle by hopelessly "dud" weather as we have been so often lately when there is terrible fighting going on but I suppose it only makes us keener than ever when a fine day comes. Nowadays we are feeling the loss of our original splendid lot a bit for we cannot expect to keep up such a splendid standard of pilots as we had. With reinforcements there is always the chance of an occasional "dud" but on the whole we have had very very few. There are just one or two among us who are not quite satisfactory but thank God I havn't any of that sort in my flight. I don't mind the job a bit so long as I've got good stout lads with "tons of guts" who will stick to me. So far my flight is simply splendid and I know the C.O. thinks a lot of it, and I only hope we will be able to keep it up. The whole squadron has really done well & I think that, though I says it as shouldn't, it has made a good name for itself. As far as I can remember our "bag" is now over fifty Huns destroyed or out of control. Really I am awfully proud to be in such a squadron and to command a flight of such fine lads.

Strange to say, though our work is vastly more exciting than what I did last time in France,
