My dear Geoffrey
The mail goes tomorrow Via America, & I believe, by the old Sierra you travelled in, so Mother and I have just settled down to write you in the old library you know so well. The clock is striking nine, & Eileen is threatening to go to bed, as Peter wakes now at about half past four in the morning, & wants to play games.
Do you remember our old nonsense verses at Kyalla on Teddy Campbell?
There was a young person called Teddy
Who never was properly ready
To play fox & geese
At the hour when police
Run in the young man that's unsteady
The was a young person from Coolabah
Who thought it the act of a fool-abah
To play games on the floor
When he wanted to snore
So he hurriedly went back to Coolabah
There was a young person named Campbell
Who once to Kyalla did ramble
But the things that were done
Ere the rise of the sun
Made him glad from Kyalla to scramble.
It's funny how I remember all this old rubbish that you & Roger & I concocted in the old happy days!
