when, if ever, it will go out as a service squadron. Everyone, including myself, was much upset at the news. It affects me very much as my position is now very doubtful and I am very worried about it. There is'nt any doubt, as far as I can see, that I am to be sent to France again sooner or later.

The Colonel went to France yesterday at a days notice and his farewell to me was "I expect I'll see you out there very soon Hughes." I feel very unsettled and on tenter hooks about the whole show and am much worried to know what to do. I may be ordered off any day at a moments notice, like the Colonel was. On the other hand I may be kept hanging on for months. It is very worrying and I wish I knew just where I stand. I am looking at it from your point of view entirely and leaving all other considerations out of the question. My main objective is to get it over as quickly and safely as possible, seeing that another trip to France is inevitable. For your sakes I would like to go out right away so that I would have winter weather to limit both our & the enemy's activities. It is a rather cowardly point of view but I don't want any more than the absolute minimum of risk. 

Now if there is one thing I want to avoid if possible it
