My dear Geoffrey
Your last letters received by us were No. 21, dated 5th May from France, & an unnumbered one dated 22nd May from London.
My dear boy, I know how you must have regretted parting from your old 62nd Squadron, & particularly "B" Flight of which you were so proud, & we can read in your letter what a wrench it was to you to return to England, & give it all up. On the other hand, Geoffrey, if you could only see what a difference it has made in your dear mother that you should be out of all that deadly danger, & that one at least of her dear boys should have a fair chance of coming back to her when the war ends, you would (as I am sure you do) cheerfully make the sacrifice of your own ambitions & hopes, for her sake. She has borne it all very bravely for more than two years now, but it is idle to say that she has borne it cheerfully – what true mother could? – & the comparative relief from daily & hourly suspense that she enjoys now is worth years to her life. I know you have made the sacrifice cheerfully & generously, but don't think for a moment that we do not appreciate & realise what a sacrifice
