My darling,

Your cable sent on Eve 1st reached us the 5th, & we were very very sorry to know you had to go back so soon but we suppose your travelling time is counted as part of your leave. It is hard for you dear to have to take part in this awful battle & we know how dangerous & difficult your part in it is. You are never out of our thoughts no matter where Daddy & I are or what we are doing. When I wake in the night I always think of you & say a little prayer for you & darling Roger. It is the only thing I can do dearest. It must be very disappointing & discouraging for you all at the front that we have had to retreat, but with Gods help all will yet be well & we hope you will soon get your step & transfer if this present danger
