My own darling Mother & Father,

How can I say what our sorrow is about dear old Bryan's death? It all seems too terrible that yet another of our very noblest & best should be taken from us but we can only bow our heads to God's Holy Will. I know it will have been a great blow to you and all our dear ones at home for it is so hard that we are so far apart in these times of sorrow. I feel that I have lost a most wonderful pal who was to have been a most close and constant companion in all my work and play throughout my life and one who would have almost taken darling Roger's place in my life. He was just a magnificent man in every way for he was so perfectly straight and true. Still we must not be selfish and must try to forget our own loss in our pride in the glorious
