God in His wisdom alone knows what the meaning of this terrible war is, but if the world is to be purged of some of its wickedness it seems to be only by the sacrifice of many of its finest spirits like Roger & Bryan. I am sending you some cuttings about Bryan. The account in the Herald I wrote myself in order that the facts might be quite accurately stated, & the other papers have republished them with small variations. The photos were the three we had received from poor old Bryan himself only a week or so previously. Your photos have not yet arrived, except the one with Bryan which he sent us.
Your last letter, No. 25, dated 22nd June from Witney, reached us a few days ago. It told of your great success at the Gosport School of Special Flying, & of your being graded IA (in the "Star" Pilot Class). We keep on being tremendously prouder & prouder of our 'infint', & we don't think he is near the end of his successes yet. So high a qualification must lead to a good job, & by this your days of teaching beginners must be practically over. We were much impressed by your masterful way of tackling the thankless job of straightening up the Witney job, but there can be no question whatsoever about the correctness of your point
