My own darling Mother & Father,

In my last letter No 16 written just before going up on patrol, on March 12th, I told you of our first two big scraps and the bad luck of the morning I wrote the letter, when we lost four machines. That afternoon I led another offensive patrol which was uneventful as we saw no Huns & got very little attention from "archie" – I suppose the Huns were all drinking beer & bragging about the four Bristols they got that morning. We heard nothing of our missing machines but I think there is quite a fair chance that all except one
