passing and for greater happiness of our dear ones. I got the news by wire last Tuesday evening when I came back after flying all day and could only catch the last train to London which brought me to Aunty at nearly midnight. I am so glad I went to her straightway on getting the news for she and Mary were all alone. It was so heartbreaking to think of her great sorrow after all she has done and suffered for all us boys. I could not do very much and felt utterly helpless but it was nice to be with them if there should be anything to do. 

She and Mary were most wonderful and their bravery and resignation were truly marvelous. She had the most wonderful letter from dear old Bryan which he wrote last year before going over the top at Messines which and it has made a wonderful difference to her. She is sure to send you a copy – it is a most wonderful letter. Poor old Frank arrived just about the time the news came but could not get leave on account of being
