I am glad to hear from you that your finances are sound, & that you are not in any way hard up, as I should hate to feel you were ever in want of money, especially as I know you love to be able to give all the girls & boys of your circle a wild & woolly time whenever you get a chance. It was a good thing that you were able to show some kindness to Margaret Vidal during the few days she was in London. You Australians must be a sort of revelation to quiet-going English people, who have always lived a more or less formal & regular sort of life, though you will remember I always told you that when you do really get to know real English gentlefolk, there are few more charming people in the world.
We were glad to get those snapshots in your last letter, & we were seriously thinking of circulating that one of you & Margaret Vidal, sitting on the doorstep, for the benefit of the various "Queens", who would straightway stop writing to you from jealously. So for fear of so sad a result, we refrained.
Now, Geoffrey dear, if you are again on active service when you get this, believe that your loving mother & father are thinking of you & praying for you every day of their lives. We can't do much, but we try never to omit to offer our weekly Communion for you & your dear brother. That God may guard you & keep you safe is our constant prayer.
God bless you.
Your ever loving father
Thomas Hughes.
