24th October

My own darling Mother & Father,

Since my last letter on the 18th I have had several lots of letters from you. It has been a great joy as usual and here is the catalogue of letters received. I have had Mother's letters Nos 6, 7, & 8, and a duplicate of No 6, also Father's letter of September 7th which is not numbered. It is just the joy of life to get your dear old letters and though the mails are awful I do get a lot of them. So far all seem to have arrived except No 5, but that may turn up yet.

Of course the news from this side is the sudden and unexpected arrival of Gilbert on 3 weeks leave from Egypt. He kept it secret so that it would be a great surprise to Aunty & the girls. Isn't it just grand? I havn't seen either Gilbert or Maurice yet but hope to get some leave soon when the family will be moving nearer London. I am looking forward to having a gay old time with them!

So far I havn't had any further news of my going to
