My dear Geoffrey
This paper shows you where we are. When Eileen & Peter went off to Leura with the Mahers on 8th January I brought Mother down here the next day, as otherwise she would have been left alone at home all day while I was in town. Then again I hoped to take a couple of weeks holiday here with her, but so far that has not materialised. First of all I had to let Schloeffel off for his fortnight at Katoomba, so that I was at the office every day while he was away, & now since his return I am being constantly telephoned for, so that life is not wholly peaceful. Anyhow we have lots of surfing, which is good for us both. Just imagine me succeeding in getting Mother into the surf!
Today we got your cablegram of 22nd January saying you were leaving that day for France. Then we got your two letters of 23rd November from Beaulieu & 7th December from the same place (Nos. 9 & 10), & finally we got a telephone message from Collins the caretaker at 26 Hunter Street
