and fly for pleasure when I do fly. You would be surprised at the amount of work to be done apart altogether from flying. The great battle all day long is to keep machines in the air and try & get every pupil his fair share of work. It sounds very easy but when one comes to do it, all sorts of unexpected complications occur. I find that I am on the go all day long pushing people into the air, and if I go away for even a short time I come back to find machines lying idle.

Of course the days are short now and when the weather is fine we have to cram an awful lot of work into the few hours that are daylight. We cannot fly later than 4.30 pm so usually I have tea after flying & then lie down & sleep till dinner time! We really have done an awful lot of work here and made an awful difference to this squadron. I'm awfully glad that the squadron is running well because Segrave should get his promotion soon now. It really is a shame the way they have held up his promotion.

We are leaving here on the 16th for a new station. This squadron is to move to Lilbourne, which is near Rugby. We will be there for about 2 months & are then to go to Rendcomb once again! That will be very nice if it comes off. As things stand now we should be at Lilbourne before Christmas.

Of course civilians must travel during Christmas week
