Requiem for poor John Redmond at St Mary's Cathedral. Many Sinn Feiners grudge even to praise him when dead, but as he was a great patriot & also a great Imperialist I was only too proud to go to pay tribute to his memory. I found myself in a seat with R.D. Meagher, John Mullins, Mark Sheldon, Dr. Nash, & J.D. Fitzgerald, & Dick Meagher whispered to me that we only wanted Judge Heydon & Andy Watt to complete our group! I don't know what some of our opponents thought of us when they saw us all in a group.

Talking of Judge Heydon, he is now coming to the end of his public career as the Government has passed a bill through Parliament providing for the retirement of all judges at 70, so that Heydon, Fitzhardinge, & Docker will be the first to go.

There was a huge meeting of Catholics last night at the Town Hall to protest against the internment of Fr. Jergers (commonly called Fr Charles) one of the Passionist priests at Marrickville who has apparently been saying things for a long time to which some of the Marrickville people objected. He is a German with strong German sympathies. I don't really know what he was actually accused of, but at any rate he was collared by the Defence Department authorities lately, & interned. Strong claims were made for a public enquiry, but of course this
