My dear Geoffrey

Here I am again writing in the middle of a debate, but fortunately I am in the room adjoining the Council Chamber so that I only hear the speeches faintly. For the past week or two we have been struggling with another Arbitration Bill, & we are at it from two in the afternoon till late at night, day after day. When we get through it we shall end the session, so I don't care how soon that time comes, as I don't want to have to leave Mother alone at home while I am here. 

We came back from Manly yesterday after putting in two months there. I think it has done us both very much good. Just imagine Mother an enthusiastic surfer! The only thing she objects to is sunburn which can't be avoided. We were getting a little tired of our company at the Hotel Pacific. We had too much Tighe Ryan & his friends, & as we know that they wd. like to jolly well eat us it has been somewhat of a strain to keep up outwardly friendly relations. Anyway we felt it was time
