he landed on our aerodrome for petrol as he was flying cross country and he told me that they have actually graded me as a IA instructor in spite of my being technically disqualified! Naturally I am very delighted at that for it is just the highest pass anyone could get.
Only that morning Collier, who is Wing Examining officer here, asked me how I did at Gosport & I told him that they had given me a IB with an extra good report. He said that was what he got at Gosport himself and added that of course a man had to be a really "star" instructor to have a hope of getting a IA! You can imagine how I chortled to myself later when I had seen Williams! I met Collier again and remarked in the most casual way "Oh I've just seen Williams & he told me that they have passed me IA after all"!
To be quite honest I'm not a little proud of having got a IA in spite of being disqualified on a technical point, for I know that I must have rather impressed them with my flying instruction to do it. Besides it is a very big thing indeed for it gives me a very strong position and
