and the spirit of the squadron is magnificent. My new lads in the flight have caught the spirit of the others and are as full of fight as they could be. We have not done any low flying since I came back and the weather has prevented much other work.

The day before yesterday was a truly perfect day – clear & brilliant. I led a big patrol & we attacked 15 Hun scouts. My gun developed serious trouble & greatly handicapped me but I got managed to shoot down one Hun out of control. The others did spendidly and got destroyed 3 more Huns & shot down 3 out of control. 

Later in the same patrol I saw a Hun two-seater cross our lines. I chased him back over fifteen miles behind the Hun lines & shot him down in flames. I got plenty of "archie" coming back, for the Huns must resent bitterly having
