& so I have changed my route & have now taken my passage to Lisbon. I take two of the [indecipherable] with me & a young lady a friend of theirs & mine, very lively & wise. I wanted Mary [indecipherable] to go with us but I am sorry to say that partly form ill health & partly from her not liking to leave her brother Charles children, who are very much under her charge, she cannot go. My cousin & valet is a Steward on board out of the [indecipherable] Brazilian Steamers, an intelligent [indecipherable] man, told off by the Manager of the Co. for me for this trip.
